From Stephanie in Rio Rancho, NM

Well, it was just great! I unfortunately had a managers' meeting that went overlong, way over, but....I arrived at the end and the applause was tremendous. Kids and parents were chattering happily on their way out. Several of my staff was in attendance and they reported a good time for all. SInce we had a torrent of what is that stuff - rain? - last night, we had to change venue at the last minute, but I think it turned out to be a better site in the end. Your guys were great especially considering this was their first outdoor performance. We'll be looking forward to booking you again once our new library is up and running - big program room with all the amenities. Thanks for a great show!

From KB:
Chris and Devin called and told me they had a great time, too.
Congrats on your new library, Stephanie, we look forward to playing at your brand new space next summer!

From Maile in New Mexico, about Chris and Devin!

Just wanted to say thank you so much for the wonderful performance of The Hobbit. The actors were so talented at engaging the attention of the kids. We are an extremely rural area where kids don't get to see live theater very often. I expect this was the first event of its kind for many of the kids here today. (We had a turn-out of about 50 people, kids and adults.) The fact that Traveling Lantern brings the show to us is VERY important. Chris and Devin; the children of the Embudo Valley thank you and wish you well. I'm sure the hours are long and the pay not great but I hope you know what a wonderful service you provide. Thanks again, Maile Pickett

From KB:
Maile, the hours ARE long, but I'm proud to say the pay is good for young actors...we are very proud at TL to pay young actors MUCH better than most theatre companies in the USA. And that's one of the reasons we get such good actors, whom we also take pride in helping with their careers in many other ways, long after they have left our employ. We invest in them, and they in us.
Thanks for your kind words!

Cory and THE TANK

Not sure where this was taken, but Cory wants to travel in this instead of the VAN...I guess he wouldn't have to worry about parking, 'cuz other vehicles would happily get out of his way!

From Portage, Wisconsin

I just wanted to let you know how impressed we were with the performance of The Hobbit today. Both actors were excellent, professional, on time and the performance was very well received by the 468 in attendance. Thank you for a wonderful theatrical experience for the children in our community.

From Tom (a parent) in Liberal, KS

This morning in Liberal, KS, my daughter and I attended a performance of The Hobbit by one one of your troupes. I was very impressed with the performance and how well the performers interacted with the audience. It was obvious that the two love performing and working with children. I hope that your troupe is brought back to Liberal soon. Thank you for your organization--you are allowing children in isolated parts of the country to develop a love for theatre.

Thanks for writing, Tom!

Summer Contest: THE HOBBIT

We are having a contest this summer to give away copies of "The Hobbit". The actors will tell you about it when they come to perform it for you.
Each Team will personalize a copy of J. R. R. Tolkien's classic story, and three children will be chosen as winners.
If you would like to enter, please send us a letter telling us about your impressions of the show, and draw us a picture! (We will post some entries on this blog!)
Contestants will be judged on the following: grammar, spelling, penmanship and expression in the drawing. (Length of letter, and sophistication of drawing are unimportant, as we hope to have some very young children enter the contest, too!)
Thank you for taking the time to send us your thoughts and impressions.

Mail entries to:
Traveling Lantern
3039 Kalmia Street
San Diego, CA 92104

Don't forget to send us your full name and address, so we know where to mail the book if you are chosen as a winner!

Have fun!!!!!!
