Another Dorothy spotted in California!

This little girl's name is Marcela...

From Ms. Gallegos, and her Kindergarten Class

All of my students enjoyed your show on Monday, April 24, 2006. They had a connection with each character within the Wizard of Oz. Since most of them had seen the movie they enjoyed it and talked about it all day long. Thank you, for a good presentation.

Oh...my GOSH, another Dorothy in Santa Rosa!

We're finding them everywhere! KB

From Cammy (parent) in CA

Dear folks at Travelinglantern: I'm a parent of 2 children who attended the Dorothy show at the public library in Santa Rosa yesterday (4-20-06). Your show was excellent, entertaining, and inspirational, thank you! Its the second show we've seen (last year we saw the Lion, Witch, wardrobe show). I've wanted to share how amazed I am that 2 actors can produce such an incredible rapid-fire show that works for the audience. Truly, I think its better than many of the $20.00 a ticket shows with elaborate sets, etc. Not only can I not afford such experiences just now, but I am finding that the shows produced at my local library (your company and others) to be superior in many ways. Again, Mucas Gracias, Cammy Michel, mother of the cute girl who got to be "Glinda" and mother of the blond boy who got to be a monkey yesterday.

Thanks for writing, Aimee.

Hi
Just wanted to write a little note on behalf of
Hackett Elementary school in Beloit, Wi. We saw the
Dorthy and the Wizard of Oz this morning and the show
was outstanding. It was wonderful to see how much our
students enjoyed it. These kids come from low income
families , so for some this was the first play they
have ever seen. It was wonderful to see how excited
they were. I am sure they will be talking about it
for weeks.
Thanks again,
Aimee Rebout (Hackett teacher)

From "Mr. Dan Shaffer and his cast of second grade favorites"

Dear Cast of "Dorothy & the Land of Oz: Thanks for the wonderful performance on Tuesday, April 18, 2006. Our kids get very few chances to see live theater and the chances they most often see are somewhat unpolished. It was good to see top notch actors doing a fabulous job. Some of the comments from my class are as follows: Jonathan: "I liked when they found the Tin Man." Hannah: "I liked it when the Witch was melting and stopped to get a drink." Chelsea: "I liked it when Taylor went up there and said 'Yes' that she would marry the man." Riley: "I liked when the Scarecrow kept falling down." Morgan: "I like it when Auntie Em was yelling for Dorothy." Micah: "I liked it when Dorothy asked the Scarecrow, 'What's 2=2?' and the Scarecrow said, '22'." Katherine: "I liked it when the flying monkeys were chasing Dorothy." Taylor: "I like it when the Lion thought he didn't have courage." Angel: "I liked it when Dorothy smacked the Lion." Timber: "I like the part when the guy came out and he was just a normal guy." The kids were impressed as you can see. We hope to see you again. We hope the rest of your tour goes well. Sincerely, Mr. Shaffer's Second Grade

Wow! What a wonderful letter! Thank you so much for writing to us.

A Question from Josh in CT

hello my name is josh. I am in the first grade. I watched your show today at my school, K.C.S. You didn't have time to awnser me after the show, but I would like to know if the ghost part in the story of mozart was real. Thank you -josh

Josh;
Great question!
The ghost in the play is a character in an "opera" (a story that is sung) that Mozart wrote, called "Don Giovanni".
There is a ghost in Mozart's story, and many historians beleive that Mozart based the character of the Ghost on his own father.
The part of the music you heard during that scene was what the Ghost sings to Don Giovanni.
Thanks for writing!

A question from Alexis in CT for Melissa and Emily

How did you remember your parts?

TWO Dorothys in Santa Barbara!

From Lisette in Santa Ana, CA

It was very amazing how the two actors who came to our school to play SHAKESPEARE- THE BARD changed clothing so fast. I learned alot by watching the play and was also very entertaining. The one lady who played different parts was very funny. She made us laugh alot. Thanks and hope to see you again soon!

Thanks for writing, Lisette!

From Tina...thank you!

Dear K B:

I wanted to send you a quick e-mail to say thank you for offering such wonderful programming. I was thinking of all the eloquent words I could use to describe the gracious performers and the clever and true screen play, but the question of one of the children who saw Saturday's performance of Dorothy sums it up best.

When the performers opened up for questions, a young child asked, "When are you going to come back to Berlin, MA to perform for us again?" Do we need to say anything more about how well received the program was? Thanks again and I wish you and your performers all the best - maybe someday soon we can bring you back!

From Ms. Maddy's class (3rd grade) in OR

Dear Traveling Lantern Theatre Company, Thank you for the show and for coming to our school. We liked how you dressed up weirdly/funny for the show. We were having a lot of fun during the show! We thought it was silly how you acted in the play. One of our favorite parts was when the wicked witch tried to take Dorothy's shoes off. Thank you for taking the time out of your day to make us laugh. We really enjoyed the show! The set was cool because it could stand up and it had all sorts of different backgrounds on it. Another favorite part was when everyone screamed to try to help Dorothy. I liked the costumes you wore too. Hope to see you again next year! Sincerely, Ms. Maddy's Class PS. Have a good time until then :)

FROM: Ms. Snook and Miss Welty's 2nd Grade Class in OR

We loved the different characters played by only two people. It was silly that the boy was a girl sometimes. They really chnaged their costumes fast. It was fun having kids from our school in the show too. The sound effects, like the tornado, were really cool. Thank you for doing the Wizard of Oz for us. It was really a trip (a wild fun ride). Hope you will come back next year!

Thank you Second Graders for writing to us!

What a lovely thing it is

to get mail.

I just want to say: It is such a pleasure to read all of your letters. Traveling on the road, a different place every night can leave you feelig a bit disconnected. Every time I come to stay at KB and Doren's (my stop-off home) it seems like there's a new stack of letters to read. Television may be quick and easy to watch, but I bet Sponge Bob never sat down with his big stack of fan mail and actually read every letter...

Then again, Sponge Bob probably gets 300 percent more fan mail than me.

Regardless, thank you so much for your letters and keep them coming!
